Bruce Camacho Named Assurant Group Chief Executive Officer

NEW YORK, NY: Fortis, Inc., part of international financial services provider Fortis, today named Bruce Camacho, currently President of Fortis’ Assurant Group, Chief Executive Officer of Assurant. The appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2003.

Headquartered in Atlanta and Miami, Assurant is the largest Fortis company in the United States. Assurant provides specialty risk management for banks, credit card companies, mortgage lenders, retailers, auto dealers and builders and dealers of manufactured housing through insurance, extended service contracts and membership programs.

Camacho has served as President of Assurant since August 2000. He will continue to report to Rob Pollock, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Fortis, Inc., who remains Chairman of Assurant. Camacho also serves as a member of the Fortis, Inc. Executive Committee.

Assurant was formed in August 1999 after Fortis, Inc., acquired American Bankers Insurance Group, Miami, Fla., and merged it with Fortis’ American Security Group, Atlanta, Ga. Camacho has served in numerous management positions during his 12-year career with Assurant and American Bankers, including Executive Vice President for Sales and Marketing, Executive Vice President of Investor Relations and Vice President of Information Systems. Before joining American Bankers, he was an accountant with Price Waterhouse. A certified public accountant, Camacho is a graduate of Prior Park College in Bath, England, and Florida State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

Camacho makes his home in Cumming, Ga., with his wife Amy and their six children.
