Full- and part-time associates enjoy a wide range of benefits, including paid time off, medical and life insurance and excellent career development opportunities.

Paid Time Off Plan

Vacation: All full- and part-time associates are eligible to earn up to a maximum of ten (10) paid vacation days during their first year of employment, depending on month of hire. New associates receive one week's credit (5 working days) after their six-month anniversary and accrue 0.833 days/credit per month until first-year anniversary. Time can be taken after the associate has completed his/her initial six (6) months of service.

Essential Absence Days (EAD): In addition to vacation, associates are eligible to take up to three (3) Essential Absence Days every six (6) months. While these days cannot be used to extend vacation time, they can be taken for illness, family illness, personal appointments and other expected or unexpected situations.

New hires/rehires may use EADs after three months of employment.

A part-time associate's eligibility for vacation and EAD is pro-rated to reflect part-time status based on his/her weekly work schedule.

Company and Floating Holidays: Eleven holidays will be observed per year, which include a combination of observed company holidays and floating days.

Group Insurance Benefits

Our flexible benefits program allows our associates to choose the coverage that is right for them and their families. There is a menu of benefits to choose from. Some benefits are considered core benefits that everyone needs and, therefore, are paid in full by the company. Others are optional benefits, so associates may pick and choose and adapt their plan to fit their needs.

Medical Insurance: Offered to every full-time and part-time associate, effective the first day of employment. Dependent coverage is available at an additional cost. There is no waiting period. Cost depends on coverage selected. Pre-tax premiums.

Dental Plan: Offered to every full-time and part-time associate, effective the first day of employment. Dependent coverage is available at an additional cost. Pre-tax premiums.

Associate Assistance Programs: Offered to all associates. Professional evaluation and counseling services at no cost to associates.

Basic Life/Accidental Death & Disability Insurance: Based on salary. Supplemental life also available through payroll deduction.

Salary Continuation: Noncontributory disability plan.

Short-term Disability: Noncontributory disability plan.

Long-term Disability Insurance: Noncontributory plan; six-month elimination period

Business Travel Accident insurance: Accidental death and disability coverage provided to associates traveling on company business.

Retirement, Savings and Investment Plans

Retirement Plan: 100 percent vested after three (3) years of service. Service begins on associate's hire date and ends when the associate leaves the company.

401(k) Savings Plan: Eligible to join the 401(k) plan upon employment. There is no waiting period. The plan offers an option to save 1-18 percent of an associate's annual salary in before-tax dollars, up to the annual limit set by the tax code. Investment choices cover several professionally managed funds. Flexibility to change funds, change the amount of savings, even borrow from the Plan account while an active associate. After completion of one year of service, associates are eligible for a company match. The company matches 100 percent on the first 3 percent of an associate's contribution and then 50 percent on the next 2 percent of an associate's contribution.

Flexible Spending Accounts: Pre-tax funding for health and dependent care expenses.

Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP): Company-sponsored program allows associates to buy shares of Assurant, Inc. stock at a discount with funds contributed through after-tax payroll deductions.

Career Development Opportunities

Training and Development: Our Knowledge Development Center (KDC) provides associates with a variety of self-study and instructor-led technical and behavioral-based courses to help them develop the skills needed to perform their jobs more effectively.

Tuition Reimbursement: Provided for business-related undergraduate and graduate degree courses. Associates must meet all program prerequisites. Payment is also provided for job-related courses.

Insurance Programs and Professional Certifications: Reimbursement also is available for insurance programs and professional certifications. Associates must meet all program guidelines.
